Below are some of the questions regarding the online master's degree in the UF/IFAS Department of Agricultural Education and Communication. If there are other questions related to the admissions process or the program, please contact Dr. Jamie Loizzo (jloizzo@ufl.edu).


  • What are the admission requirements?

    Minimum requirements for direct admission to this program include the following:

    • Application must be submitted through the University of Florida Office of Admissions.  
    • 3.0 grade point average in undergraduate course work completed after 60 hours
    • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score of 300 or higher
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • Statement of Purpose/Letter of Intent

    Exceptions to these requirements are subject to recommendation by the department and approval by the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences' associate dean and Dean of the Graduate School.

  • What is the cost for tuition?

    Tuition is approximately $560/credit hour. The tuition rate is the same for all students, regardless of residency.

    Tuition rates apply to in-state, out-of-state, and international students equally. For students using state employee tuition waivers, Distance Learning fees of approximately $15/credit hour may apply. Tuition costs and fees are subject to change.

  • Can I use my University of Florida Employee Education Program (EEP) benefits for this program?

    Yes, county extension faculty and other UF employees may apply the employee education benefit to courses contained within this program, with the exception of one required research course. Visit the EEP website for appropriate terms.

  • Who will be my academic adviser?

    Your faculty adviser will be chosen based on the research and career interests expressed in your Statement of Purpose, included with your admissions letter. It is important that you give a clear indication of your goals and interests within this letter. You will be notified of your selected adviser in your acceptance letter.   • What courses are required for my program?

    Students may select from any AEC courses offered online according to their area of interest. Before completion of your program of study, all students must have fulfilled the requirements outlined within the AEC Graduate Handbook, 2019-2020 (See p. 13-16). Students must complete 32 credits, including:

    • AEC 6767: Research Strategies in AEC (3 credits)
    • STA 6126: Statistical Methods in Social Science Research I (3 credits)
      • OR EDF 6400: Quantitative Foundations of Educational Research (3 credits)
      • OR STA 6166: Statistical Methods in Research (3 credits)
      • OR graduate-level Qualitative Data Analysis course
      • OR other approved graduate-level statistics course
    • 3-6 credit hours of non-thesis research hours (AEC 6912)

    You will work closely with your faculty advisor to complete your Program of Study (2019-20), and ensure you are meeting these requirements.

  • What are the technology requirements for this program?

    Students should comply with the UF Student Computing Requirements. Access to high-speed internet is essential, as much of our instructional content requires video streaming. You will also want to ensure you have access to the latest versions of multiple web-browsers. Our courses currently run through the Canvas Learning Management system, which tends to function best within Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Canvas will only support the latest two versions of any given internet browser. The use of a webcam and microphone may be required for assignments or conferencing.
